Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called out President Uhuru Kenyatta for extending the night curfew in the quest to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections in the country.

Taking to his Twitter account, the seemingly irked senator questioned President Kenyatta how he was expecting parents to afford fees as schools reopen after extending the curfew days and increasing taxes.

“You extend curfew hours, increased taxes, opened schools and you expect parents to afford? What the hell are you smoking?” posed Ledama.

President Uhuru through Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’s on Sunday, January, 3 announced the extension of the dawn to dusk curfew commencing from 10 pm to 4 am will continue until March 12, 2021.

Ledama has questioned President Uhuru’s decision to extend the curfew and increasing taxes not considering that schools are re-opening and parents have a burden for school fees.

President Kenyatta signed the Tax Laws (Amendment) (No.2) Bill of 2020 into law which will be effective starting January 1, 2021

Primary and secondary schools are expected to fully reopen on Monday, January 4, 2021, after a 10-months break occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the country on March 13.

Meanwhile, netizens have reacted to Ledama’s tweet with a good portion of them seem to be backing his thoughts on the matter.

Here are some of the tweets;

The Morning Millionaire:  Imagine taking kids to school and extending a curfew.. Commom sense aint common, kwani Covid-19 inasambaa sana usiku kuliko the risk of taking kids to schools..Imagine those dormitory that are always crowded 24/7 and dining halls, halafu you extend curfew.Fobe na Bhangi ni mbaya

Chela: Our economy is ravaging, parents are struggling to meet their ends meet by paying school fees. His Excellency must have been misguided will our economy really grow? That’s why we are in a third world country Kenya. Soon Rwanda will beat us by far.

Kizito_miles: Uhuru’s legacy can be summed up by 1 Kings 12:11: My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.

Mohammed Juma: Curfew should’ve gone with 2020, since this year started well & schools are expected to open, curfew should’ve come to an end so that parents may hustle to get the little they’re looking for and the economy may recover in time
