Hundreds of residents of Mozambique’s Buzi District have camped at Guara Guara’s administrative center awaiting recovery after their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Eloise.

Some residents say they have been in the area for three days now.

The National Disaster Management Agency says efforts are being made to ensure everyone is saved.

Survivors are sent to private homes while others are sent to shelters.

The evacuation operation began on the 20th of this month, three days before the arrival of Hurricane Eloise accompanied by strong winds of between 120 and 150 kilometers per hour and heavy rainfall exceeding 200 millimeters in 12 hours.

The National Disaster Management Center said most of the residents defied the warning issued to evacuate the first evacuees to Guara Guara’s administrative center.

It is not clear how long it will take to relocate all residents as they continue to flow into the administration center.
