A recent report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) lists Kenya as one of 148 countries whose citizens are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking.

The report said the situation was due to difficult living conditions, especially during the Covid-19 epidemic, which erupted last year.

According to a report released on Sunday, approximately 50,000 people were trafficked between 2017 and 2018 to different countries.

The situation is said to be due to unemployment, poverty and the difficult economic situation caused by the Covid-19 disaster.

In addition, the number of people involved in the illegal trade increased.

227 people from Ethiopia are among those identified. Others came from Nepal, Libya, India and South Sudan.

A large number of Ethiopians involved in the trade were brought into the country, while others were sent to Uganda, as well as to the Maldives.
