Uhuru Rejects Kiti Gitura Appointment as Kemsa Board Chairman –


President Uhuru Kenyatta has revoked Kembi Gitura’s appointment to the Kenya Medical Distribution Authority (Kemsa) board.

In a press release on April 28, the head of state instead appointed Mary Mwadime as chairman of the board.

Its ownership, the notice states, will begin on April 30 for a period of three years.

Gitura, a former Murang’a senator, in March was appointed chairman of the board of the Communications Authority (CA) for a period of three years from April 18.

This was following the Sh7.8 billion scandal in Kemsa where the name Gitura was mentioned.

The agency is accused of buying Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) at double market prices and resulting in the loss of billions and bids that were allegedly awarded to the company, some involving influential politicians, businessmen and brokers.

In an email to the troubled Chief Executive Officer, Jonah Manjari, Gitura instructed the former to disregard the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigation and sign an unusual tender contract involving one of the companies involved in the scandal. .

“My position is that the EACC has absolutely no role in enforcing the contract and your letter mentioned above will result in unnecessary delays and it was not very important to write,” Gitura told the CEO in a July 27 email.

MPs sitting on the Public Investment Committee (PIC) headed by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir raised concerns after Gitura was transferred to CA.

Health Adviser Mutahi Kagwe has also sent four members of the Kemsa board of directors.

Four is; Timothy Waema, Bibiana Njue, Joel Gesuka and Dorothy Aywak.

Their place will be; Captain Lawrence Wahome, Robert Nyarango, Terry Ramadhani and Linton Kinyua.

Their appointment starts from April 30 for a period of three years.
