Eleven times Kenyan Premier League winners Tusker FC have announced the appointment of George Maina as their new assistant coach.

Maina replaces Charles Okere who was appointed as the national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets, head coach.

George Maina, a former brewer and brewer, who has been in charge of Naivas FC, will take over as head coach Robert Matano.

Maina returns to the club having served under the same role nine years ago.

“Tusker is like my home because I have been here for many years as a player and as a coach. Glad to be back. When Coach Five asked if I could come and work with him, I could not say no. “I have worked with him before, he has coached me as a player and he is someone I respect very much,” Maina said

Head Coach Robert Matano expressed the confidence of the two leading clubs to succeed.

“We’ve been working together for a long time and when the opportunity to bring him back came up, I didn’t hesitate to ask him if he could come. We’re still working and hopefully we can win more trophies together,” Matano said.

George Maina and Robert Matano look forward to reclaiming the Kenyan Premier League title which the club last won in 2016.

Club chairman Daniel Aduda commented on the appointment:

“George is a very successful club hero at Tusker as a player and as a coach. We are happy to have him inside and better because he knows the club fabric and it won’t be hard for him to get started. I want to wish him all the best as he begins his career and we hope we win the trophy together. ”

Tusker Fc leads the Kenya Premier League standings with 36 points, six ahead of rivals KCB FC.

Tusker FC leads the standings with 36 points from 16 rounds.

The move was suspended after 16 rounds following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s speech on March 16th which holds sports activities to control the spread of corona virus in the country. The restrictions have been reversed by FKF to show that the League could resume on May 12th.
