The blaze, which broke out early on Friday, was extinguished and four survivors were transferred to nearby hospitals.

The case comes as the second wave of covid 19 continues to be witnessed in India.

Increased incidence of the disease has plagued hospitals, leading to severe oxygen shortages, intensive care units and respirators.

India on Friday recorded 332,730 cases of corona virus infection, the highest number recorded in the world for the second day in a row.

The daily death toll from Covid-19 in the country has risen to 2,263 in the last 24 hours.

The fire broke out at Vijay Vallabh Hospital in the Virar section of Maharashtra province, approximately 70 kilometers North of Mumbai.

The cause of the fire has not been identified and the Maharashtra state minister has ordered an investigation.
