In a statement to reporters, Military Secretary Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said the army leadership would like to warn some corrupt politicians, who are desperate to lead the country through the back doors.

Nwachukwu has urged the activists to forget such ideas, as the military under the current leadership is strong in protecting Nigerian democracy as well as its growth.

He was responding to a televised statement on Sunday by one senior lawyer, Robert Clarke, that Nigeria was on the verge of collapse soon, suggesting that the military should take over.

Brig-Gen Nwachukwu warned that such a move would be illegal, equating it with treason.
