Agriculture Minister Peter Munya has given a two-week deadline for co-operatives to sign fund forms for coffee cultivation otherwise the parties will be disbanded.

The minister said the government has allocated 7 billion shillings to revive the coffee industry in the country, money that he said will be used to install modern machinery in the coffee industry.

Speaking in Embu County during a consultation meeting on the 2020 coffee bill, Minister Munya said part of the money would be used to conduct soil quality research in coffee growing areas.

The minister also said the government would hire more field officers to advise coffee farmers.

The minister said the government has allocated another amount of 3 billion shillings through the Coffee Development Fund to be provided as loans to farmers with a minimum interest rate of 3 percent.
