The county’s deputy secretary general Abdirashid Mohamed said Governor Ali Korane’s government was coordinating a program that would enable orphans in Garissa County to receive support from the government.

Abdulrashid was speaking after setting up a convoy to distribute food worth about 10 million shillings donated by Islamic Relief for Ramadan and to help about 2,300 families affected by COVID 19 in Balambala and Lagdera.

He said that in collaboration with Islamic Relief, which already supports about 1,250 orphans, the organization could help them create statistics for all orphans and orphanages in the county and enable the county government to intervene and provide assistance.

The deputy secretary general said that the outbreak of COVID-19 had adversely affected the activities of many orphanages in Garissa County and endangered the future of hundreds of children.
