The trial of former PCEA church leader David Gathanju and two other people suspected of stealing 50.9 million shillings will begin next Tuesday.

This is after prosecutor Donnex Ongila told the court that a qualified witness was ill.

Ongila also told the court that the third defendant’s lawyer was not ready for the case and that the case should be adjourned until next week.

Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.

Since the trial began, only one witness has testified. Gathanju, who served between 2009 and 2015, has been charged with two counts of stealing 50.9 million shillings from PCEA church.

They were accused that on a different day between January 2, 2016 and June 30, 2017 at the church’s headquarters on South C Street in Nairobi they stole the church’s money.

They denied the allegations and were released on bail of one million shillings.

Kiambu Chief Justice Stella Atammbo ordered the prosecution to prepare properly and ensure that witnesses arrive in court next Tuesday when the case is heard.
