Tanzania’s Taifa Stars clinched the 2020 CHAN Championship in Cameroon after defeating West African giants Guinea and forcing a 2-2 draw in the final Group D match on Wednesday night at the Reunification Stadium in Doula.

Yakhouba Barry put Syli Nationale of Guinea in the lead with a 4-minute penalty kick before the National Stars responded through Baraka Majogoro who fired a 20-foot-wide shot that stunned the Guinea goalkeeper in the 23rd minute and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw.

In the second half Tanzania continued to play a satisfying game with a pass to each other so Edward Manyama scored the second goal through a header in the 68th minute, a goal that cut the Guinean game in danger of being relegated.

However, technical changes from Guinea’s coach intensified as the West African side stepped up their fruitful attack as Victor Kantabadouno curled the ball into the net in the 82nd minute, a goal that secured Group D’s lead and knocked them out of Tanzania.

In another Group D match at Limbe Stadium Namibia came from a goalless draw against Zambia.

Guinea led the group with 5 points followed by Zambia also with 5 points while Tanzania emerged third with 4 points and Namibia held on to one point.
