Kenya Railways Services will today launch night passenger train services on its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line.

According to Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga, the SGR train will commence the night travel from both ends of Mombasa and Nairobi at 9 pm and arrive at the respective destinations at 3 am.

While speaking to Citizen TV, Mr. Mainga further revealed that the new program was occasioned by the increasing demand for travel.

“We are running this service because of the boom in passengers from the schools reopening with the aim of supporting parents, teachers, and students moving from different locations. Airports and matatus have been overwhelmed,” he said.

According to the agency, the Madara Express train will only operate on Monday and Tuesday with possible extensions to other days of the week depending on the steady demand.
