Senate calls Ny’ong’o over the use of COVID-19 – KBC funds

The Senate has summoned Kisumu Governor Anyang Ny’ong’o to respond to audit inquiries by the Auditor General on the use of COVID-19 funds.

This is after Ny’ong’o failed to appear before the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday 20 April the same.

“The Standing Committee on Health invites you to come before the Committee almost through the online conference forum on Friday 30 April at 9am. The safe link will be shared with your office before the session, ”Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye’s statement reads.

The committee has also asked the Governor to submit all documents he will rely on by email before Wednesday 28 April.

Nyegenye has warned Ny’ong’o that not attending the meeting or submitting the relevant documents will lead to sanctions. “The committee may force you to pay a fine not exceeding Ksh 500,000 or it may order your arrest in accordance with the Powers and Rights of Parliament Act.”

Ny’ong’o could also be found guilty under the Powers and Privileges Act of Parliament which he will be liable for a fine not exceeding Ksh 200,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or both.
