Deputy President William Ruto has urged those seeking to run for president in next year’s general election talk to voters instead of waiting for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nomination.

Addressing residents of Kinango constituency, Kwale County, Ruto said the President should not recommend anyone, especially those who did not support him when he ran for president.

He told his political opponents to prepare for the race, saying it was the people who elected the leaders through votes and not through nominations.

The deputy president said he would continue to push for economic growth to benefit the underprivileged in society.

“We need to change the economic system of this nation so that there are enough resources to the grassroots,” said Ruto.

The Deputy President was accompanied by MPs Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga), Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Anuar Toitiptip (Lamu), Lydia Haika (Taita Taveta), Vincent Kemosi (Mugirango West) , Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati), Faisal Bader (Msambweni), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Mohamed Ali (Nyali) and Owen Baya (Kilifi north).
