Mr Trump was indicted in 2019 on allegations that he sought help from Ukraine to increase his chances of being re-elected.

Je! What do we know about the invasion?

The search took place Wednesday in the former apartment of the mayor of New York City’s Upper East Side, as well as his Park Avenue office.

Several electronic devices belonging to the 76-year-old were seized, according to the New York Times.

The document included allegations that Giuliani failed to register as a foreign agent. The Foreign Agency Registration Act requires people to notify the State Department if they are acting as foreign agents on behalf of another nation.

Mr Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello, called the raids “legal robbery”.

“This is not necessary at all,” Mr Costello told Fox News, adding that the search was made “to make him look like a criminal.”

He added that the raid stemmed from a “alleged incident of non-registration as a foreign agent”.

Mr Giuliani had previously called the investigation “pure political persecution”.
What is history?

Mr Giuliani played a key role in efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate Mr Biden and his son Hunter, who served on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. He was also instrumental in the removal of the former US ambassador to Ukraine, witnesses in Mr Trump’s indictment testified.

Hunter Biden is facing a non-criminal tax investigation from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Wednesday’s search warrant does not mean a crime against Mr. Giuliani, but marks the end of the case for the former mayor.

Investigators have released a few details so far about the case and it remains unclear whether the Republican will eventually face any charges.

The search warrant was signed by the federal judge. Documents against lawyers such as Mr Giuliani require the approval of senior officials of the Legal Department, the Associated Press reports.

Mr Giuliani began representing the former president in April 2018 when Mr Trump was being investigated for his involvement with Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Following Mr Trump’s defeat in November, Mr Giuliani visited the country and spoke to Republican lawmakers in an effort to persuade government lawmakers to change the outcome in favor of Mr Trump.
