Harambee Stars striker Michale Olunga is expected to go on record as the first Kenyan to play in a World Cup between clubs starting this Thursday in Qatar.

The 26-year-old Olunga has been included in the Al Duhail Sc squad as they play their opening match on Thursday, February 4 against African champions Al Ahly from Egypt.

Mc Donald Mariga was previously part of Italy’s Inter Milan squad that won the 2010 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Olunga, who emerged as the top scorer and player in the Japanese Premier League last year with Kashiwa Reysol, joined the Qatari champions for 933 million shillings, where he is thought to have doubled his salary in Japan.

The Kenyan striker is expected to play Al Duhail in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Thursday against nine-time African champions Al Ahly after being included in the 23-man squad of the former Qatar Premier League champions Lakhwiya.

In another quarter-final match on Thursday, North American champions Tigres UNL of Mexico will face Asian champions Ulsan Hyundai.

The World Cup between the clubs includes continental champions, Europe represented by Bayern Munich and Palmeiras representing South America with its final scheduled for February 11.
