Prize-winning rapper Octopizzo has criticized fellow musicians, who on Saturday, April 24, demanded that Deputy President William Ruto at his Karen residence in Nairobi. The entertainers, led by rapper Kaligraph Jones, whose real name is Brian Robert Ouko, reportedly visited the DP to discuss the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic prevention and other challenges facing their industry.

This was not well received by Octopizzo, the real Henry Ohanga, who saw nothing but an opportunity in the call of honor. He and a few others saw nothing good for the musicians to reach DP Ruto.

Taking his Twitter handle, the hip-hop rapper wrote in his deep Sheng rejecting the tour: “So, ‘Corona’ has made ‘artists’ grow opportunity. I told these people are mambleina you all thought it’s a joke now see. What are these?

However, in several posts seen and LitKenya.com, various artists, including singer Nadia Mukami, and comedian Dj Shiti, who were present, said that the meeting with the DP was aimed at discussing the path towards #unlockourcountry campaign.

For his part, DP Ruto tweeted: “At the request of our artists led by Khaligraph Jones, I met with creative industry participants to discuss their grievances. Artists raised issues of serious concern and commented on the best way to help the government and the industry find income.

“We welcome their offer to strengthen the campaign on the observance of the Covid-19 protocols and the vaccine vehicle as soon as it is completely released.”

Award-winning rapper Kaligraph Jones has been at the forefront of pushing for a country reopening to enable people to follow their livelihoods. Kenyans have been hit by the Covid-19 disaster, which since March last year, has devastated the economy, resulting in massive job losses.

Since the recent closure of five major counties – Nairobi, Machakos, Nakuru, Kajiado, and Kiambu – and the implementation of the curfew from 4pm to 4am, many people, including performers, have complained about the disappearance of life.

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is one of the few politicians who have come forward to support artists during this difficult time.
