Nine people were killed on Friday Morning in a grisly road accident at Gilgil along Nairobi – Nakuru Highway.
Gilgil sub-county Police commander John Onditi confirmed that Nine died on the spot when the matatu collided head-on with a truck near St.Marys hospital.
“The passenger’s vehicle was ferrying passengers to Nairobi while the truck was heading in the opposite direction,” The Police boss said.
“Eight people died on the sport, while one who was in a critical condition died while undergoing treatment, He added.
The 5 am accident caused a major traffic jam.
The police commander said investigations have been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
“We are expecting management of the Matatu to record a statement with the police, to explain why they defied Covid-19 regulations,” he added.

The bodies were moved to the local mortuary while the injured passengers are receiving treatment at St.Mary’s and St. Joseph’s Mission hospitals.
