The National Integration and Integration Commission, NCIC, has reconciled two communities that have been at loggerheads in Mandera County.

The commission along with national and county government officials participated in the consultations where the communities of Garre and Murule were determined to maintain peace and harmony.

Speaking after the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the commission’s chairman, Samwel Kobia, promised that they would support the agreed resolutions to maintain peace between the two communities.

Mandera County Governor Ali Roba praised the agreement and urged the community to forget their differences and live in peace.

Among the resolutions read by the chairman of the commission’s consultative committee NCIC Sheikh Abdirahaman Ibrahim is a two-week deadline for one community accused of raping to pay compensation of 60 thousand shillings.

It was also agreed that the community that would break the agreement would pay compensation of 350 camels or an equal amount of money.

The national government was urged to take immediate action to coordinate the border between the two communities in order to avoid further conflicts.
