The national grassroots race to be held this Saturday at the Ngong Race Course will feature 16 teams including athletes from the KWS wildlife service, NYS national youth service and a refugee athletes team.

According to Kenya Athletics Council official Barnaba Korir, athletes from all branches will participate in the same 7-unit competition which is 10 kilometers for men and women, 8 kilometers for boys under 20 kilometers and 6 kilometers for girls under 20 years. shoots under the age of 18 if 6 km boys and 5 km girls with a rotating stick.

According to Korir, the competition is expected to be very competitive, especially after the cancellation of the Ras Al Khaima semi-marathon in favor of RAK which was scheduled for later next week, where our crowned athletes were expected to open their season.

The crowned athletes who will take part in Saturday’s competition include world champion cross country champion Hellen Obiri representing the KDF squad, national champion Kibiwott Kandie also from the army, Sheilah Chelangat and Geofrey Kamworor of Police and Charles Mneria among other athletes.

Meanwhile, Lotto Foundation CEO Dr Joan Mwaura has announced that they will sponsor Saturday’s race and preparations for the Kenyan team for the Africa Cup of Nations to be held on the 7th of next month in Lome Togo at a cost of 7 million shillings while also planning to fund a Kenyan race. The marathon that will take part in this year’s Olympics.

The first 6 athletes in each unit will qualify to represent Kenya in the Africa Cup of Nations early next month.
