Nairobi Hospital Threatens to Detain Employees for Leaking Information on Redundancy –


Any staff found to have leaked plans to lay off part of Nairobi Hospital staff will be subject to sanctions including immediate dismissal, the administration said.

In an internal memorandum of March 25, 2021, Nairobi Hospital CEO James Nyamongo accused some staff members of sharing false information about restructuring on social media.

“We have noticed that there are messages circulating on social media and misinformation about staff cuts. This information has been distorted and makes false allegations about the operation of the hospital, ”said Nyamongo.

“When we follow up on fake information, let all our employees know that engaging in and misrepresenting internal communication between management and employees is a gross violation of employment regulations. Any employees found to be in breach of the rules will be subject to disciplinary action including immediate dismissal.”

“Details of vacancies and numbers affected by the staff reconciliation exercise are currently being worked on and all staff will be notified as more information is available. The key criteria to be used in identifying employees affected in this process will be the same in an improved organizational structure, based on their skills and experience, level of performance, performance appraisal and relevant competency defined for various roles in organizational structure. The exercise, scheduled to be completed in May 2021, will focus on cadres of workers who can unite and non-union, ”he added.

James Nyamongo who had the shortest mark at the Kenya Petroleum Corporation, was appointed CEO of Nairobi Hospital in December following the dismissal of Dr Allan Pamba.

Dr Pamba was fired after falling out with the board over disputes that affected tenders awarded by the Hospital.
