When he appeared before the Public Investment Committee (PIC) on Thursday, Murathe insisted that he was just a signatory but did not stand to benefit from the lucrative tender.

He told a committee headed by Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir that he only ensured the distribution of 50,000 PPE equipment donated by Entec Limited to Kilig.

“The use of the word collateral was not contractual, it was just a word of comfort that yes, I know these people. I have never been involved in the Kilig or Entec business, I had no way of persuading KEMSA to pay,” said Murathe.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally also took the opportunity to draw Deputy President William Ruto into the fray.

He said Kilig was owned by people linked to DP Ruto and Chinese nationals.

“I am not the director of Kilig, I did not receive a contract from KEMSA, and I did not give KEMSA. Kilig is a DP-owned company; they are in contact with people who can fund the company through an attorney and transfer ownership to new owners, ”he avoided.

Lawmakers wanted to know how the volunteer letter given to Kilig was canceled and then revived.

“The fact that I assured them does not mean I was profitable, I was helping my friend do business, it does not mean I was doing it for profit. I have paid bail to people, and when I get out of court, I do not tell people to pay me,” he continued.

Anger erupted shortly after Murathe accused Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim of pardoning Ruto.

Kassim claimed that the vice-chairman of the Jubilee was being beaten by the truth.

Murathe was asked to apologize. But Embakasi East MP Babu Owino caused a stir when he helped Murathe.

Babu said the MP was trying to sue the Jubilee politician.

“These MPs are from Tanga Tanga and we all know that. MP Rashid is doing politics in this investigation. He finds Murathe guilty but he is not. I am defending Murathe because the fact is that there was no Ksh4 billion involved in this case, and Murathe was not given any money as claimed, ”Babu said before being called to order.

In his closing remarks, Murathe noted that he was not a “Covid millionaire” as claimed in the media.

He also threatened to take legal action against the media houses that badly portrayed him.

“It is very unfortunate that some of us are considered scandalous poster boys. I have never given any jokes and even my relatives think I am a Covid billionaire. People call me and ask me to give them money,” he said.

The committee said it would be writing to KCB bank to find out who signed the two.
