More than 30 youths were arrested over the weekend and four others escaped after being found partying at a house party in Koweo village, Rachuonyo East Sub-County, Homabay County.

Children between the ages of 12 and 17 were taken in an operation led by Kojwach Kawere Sub Location Assistant Chief Isaiah Ondoro and Kojwach Kamyoro colleague Fredrick Okeyo.

According to Ondoro the officers raided the house at 11pm and arrested eight girls and 28 boys while four of their colleagues escaped by jumping over a fence.

The superintendent said most of the arrested children took KCPE exams recently while others were still in elementary school.

“We received a tip from the public that children were participating in the house and loud music disturbing the neighboring houses,” he added.

During the raid, bottles of alcohol, two packets of unused condoms and two motorcycles suspected of being used to transport young children to the ceremony were recovered.

The children were taken to Ringa police station.

The incident comes at a time when religious leaders and other stakeholders in the county have been urging parents and guardians to take extra care of their children to prevent them from engaging in social ills.
