In a letter dated April 26, Imwatok states that the companies receiving payments are large and well-connected, with some being agents for MCAs or County government employees.

At the center of the charge is acting governor Ann Kananu, who has been running the Nairobi county government since Mike Sonko was indicted. Most payments were made after starting work on January 15.

Some companies have been reported to have worked or equipment in the environmental department or delivered food to the County for public distribution purposes to reduce them during the current COVID-19 disaster.

The two departments were however transferred from the County government to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

“The environmental issues are part of the work that was transferred to the Metropolitan Services Nairobi (NMS) and the County should never be seen to be preparing to pay for and / or even pay for such services as this would be contrary to the Transfer Certificate,” says Imwatok.

According to Imwatok, no food has ever been provided to the County and no food has ever been distributed to the said public.

“It is absurd that more than 275 million taxpayers’ money will be paid to companies that belong to the County Legislature or their representatives of either services and / or products that have never been provided,” adds Imwatok.

“They have also been heard bragging about how they have a relationship in the EACC and that they cannot be touched.”

In a separate letter, Imwatok issued a warning about payments made to lawyers and legal companies amounting to more than Ksh410 million in 2021 alone.

Among the law firms involved are Prof Tom Ojienda & Associates, Miller & Co Lawyers, and Letangule & Co Lawyers among others.

Below is a list of law firms and payment dates.

“It is instructive to note that all this money was paid immediately after being removed from
office by way of prosecuting Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko. Moreover, it is not lost on us
that some of the Advocates mentioned in the list above were Mike’s attorneys
Both Sonko in the County Assembly and the Senate, ”added Imwatok.

Imwatok has given the EACC 48 hours to take the case or order its lawyers to seek “appropriate legal remedies”.
