Martha Koome will be interviewed by a parliamentary committee on Thursday the 13th

Martha Koome, who was nominated for the post of chief justice, is expected to be interviewed by a national parliamentary committee on justice and legal issues on Thursday, May 13 this year.

In an announcement published in local newspapers, the secretary of the national assembly Michael Sialai said that a public participation session would be held at the County Hall at 4 p.m.

Anyone who opposes his or her nomination may lodge a complaint with the witness in the office of the secretary of parliament in the main parliament building or via e-mail clerk@parliament.go.ke as of Wednesday 12th May this year.

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee has 28 days to interview Judge Koome and submit his report to parliament for consideration.

Judge Martha Koome was shortlisted from nine candidates for an interview conducted by the Judiciary Recruitment Commission headed by Professor Olive Mugenda.

If approved by parliament she will make history by becoming the first woman to serve as the country’s chief justice.
