Man Dies After Accidental Collapse In Transit Belt At Kibos Sugar Factory –

A man known as Maurice Onyango, the driver of an alarm tractor has died after falling from a conveyor belt on Kibos sugar.

According to KIsumu County Police Commander Samuel Anampiu The incident happened Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Anampiu told reporters that factory safety officer Isaac Biwott he reported the incident to police accounting for the occurrence of the incidents.

For example, Biwott revealed that Onyango fell on a moving tape and was instantly crushed. The incident is considered a hazard in the workplace and a preliminary investigation has been conducted on the matter.

The body of the deceased has been taken to the mortuary of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital.

In early 2020, the factory threatened to close if management did not heed the call to relocate Kibos Special School to another location.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha issued a directive saying children with special needs continue to suffer because of the environmental hazards they face at a factory about 20 meters from the school.

Management had previously offered to provide an alternative portion of land of the same size, building complete facilities for the learning center, but the school board rejected the offer saying the proposed site was full of snakes.
