Former mother of the nation Mama Ngina Kenyatta on Sunday received the 2019 Macky Sall Consultation Award in Africa, from Defense Minister Dr. Ambassador Monica Juma.

The award, presented on December 11 last year at the African Civilizations Museum in Dakar, Senegal by President Macky Sall, was received by Ambassador Juma on behalf of Mama Ngina Kenyatta who would not travel following the outbreak of COVID-19.

The annual award is given to African leaders who use counseling to avoid conflicts on the continent and was named after Senegalese President Macky Sall who is celebrated as a prominent African mediator.

Ms. Ngina Kenyatta has been presented with the award for calming tensions in the country and in the region for many years, especially for the important role she played in ending political turmoil after the 2007 general elections.

Speaking when he received the award from Dr. Last week at her Nairobi residence, the former mother thanked the research and planning center (CIRID) for the recognition.

He said it was a great honor for the country’s role to be at the forefront of the pursuit of lasting peace and stability in the East African region.
