Education Minister Professor George Magoha has dismissed allegations that candidates for the eighth grade national examination (KCPE) may fall this year.

According to a report by the National Examinations Council (KNEC), the students have registered poor results across the country, on a test they did after returning to school last year.

The report revealed that more than half of the 1.1 million students across the country scored less than 50 marks in all the tests tested, with 30 out of 47 counties failing to get an average of 50 percent results.

Following the poor results, the KNEC Council raised concerns that the situation could recur in the KCPE national exam next month.

However, Minister Magoha has strongly opposed the statement, saying that the students are very smart and he is confident they will register the best results in the exam.

“I have no doubt that these students will register for the best results in the next KCPE exam. These students are smart and will not fall, ”said Magoha.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the academic activities at Mukuru Kwa Njenga Primary School in Embakasi in Nairobi, Prof. Magoha added that teachers have prepared students well enough to take their national exams by March.

“I am confident that the efforts made by teachers since the resumption of lessons have helped to improve the shortcomings identified through the pilot exams,” he added.

At the same time, Magoha has condemned the outbreak of unrest in academic institutions that has been witnessed in recent days, saying parents will be held accountable for their children’s actions.

The minister also warned that students would not be allowed to move from one school to another if unrest broke out, but would wait until the damaged schools were repaired.

In addition, Magoha has called for joint efforts in addressing the problem of misconduct currently being witnessed among students.
