Mwathi replaces the late Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange who passed away in March over problems related to Covid-19.

Wajir Woman MP Fatuma Gedi, who had expressed interest in the seat, did not submit her application by the deadline.

He gave up his ambition after the ODM party leader expressed support for Mwathi.

Mwathi for his part thanked the committee members for their support.

“I promise we will go on a trip together. The late Koinange was a close friend of mine, ”he said.

Mwathi was until Tuesday the chairman of the Labor Committee.

He has been a member of the Parliamentary Service Commission, was the first vice-chairman of the privileges committee.
