Kiambaa MP, Muguga by-election held on July 15


The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has nominated the Kiambaa MP and the Muguga MCA by-election for July 15.

In a newspaper notice dated April 23, the commission asked political parties wishing to run for seats to submit the names of the candidates participating in the primary party and the date of the main party by May 3.

In addition, the parties will submit the names of the nominated candidates by May 17.

The campaign for the above seats will begin on May 24 and end on July 12.

The seat of Muguga ward representative was vacated after the death of Eliud Ngugi on March 16.

The deceased was diagnosed with Covid-19 complications while undergoing treatment at Kenyatta University Hospital.

Kiambaa MP’s seat was vacated shortly after the death of Paul Koinange.

The deceased MP died on March 31 while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital. He also died with Covid-19.

The seat has attracted 20 candidates, including his widow, June Koinange, who has only expressed interest in the seat.

“There have been discussions in Kiambaa which have brought together voters and opinion leaders,” June was quoted as saying. Nation.

“People have come to realize that they need a strong personality to complete the projects initiated by the late Hon. Paul Koinange.”

If things stay the same, June will clash with her brother-in-law, Lennah Koinange.
