Kenya, Tanzania to launch a joint wildlife counting exercise – Radio National

Kenya and Tanzania will conduct a joint border operation to count rhinos and other large wildlife in the the Mara-Serengeti border.

The wildlife census is one of the solutions reached at a joint conference on tourism during a conference held at the Mara-Serengeti Hotel.

Narok Governor Samwel Tunai, who is also chairman of the council’s tourism and natural resources management committee, said the information gathered after the operation would help determine the number of tanks in the area.

The data will also be used to set strategies to enhance conservation and conflict prevention activities between humans and wildlife in the border areas between the two countries.

The conference was co-sponsored by the European Union (EU) and was attended by senior managers and directors of Kenya and Tanzania’s national wildlife reserves.
