A document between the emergency fund of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) has revealed that the Kenyan government will pay billions of shillings 1.37 for the purchase of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines.

Kenya will receive 4,176,000 Covid-19 vaccines to be delivered to the country later this month and will be sold at a cheaper price of 330 shillings per vaccine.

UNICEF also said the AstraZeneca vaccine has not yet been approved worldwide by the WHO for emergency use before it is distributed.

The permit is expected to be issued on February 15 before the vaccine can be shipped.

Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe, in an earlier statement said the government intends to vaccinate about 1.25 million Kenyans between February and June, especially health care providers who treat 19 COVID patients and essential care providers.

The second phase is expected to be released in June and July where 9.7 million Kenyans will be vaccinated based on the availability of the vaccine.
