Kenya will receive 24 million doses of the COVID 19 vaccine from the COVAX program and purchase another 11 million doses of the vaccine to vaccinate 16 million Kenyans in 18 months.

1.25 million people will be targeted between the end of this month and June this year.

Speaking during a daily report on the corona virus epidemic in the country, senior secretary in the health ministry Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said the government would start providing the vaccine as soon as it received its first shipment later this month.

Dr. Mwangangi said the vaccination campaign would be launched in three phases.

That comes as 260 people have been diagnosed with corona virus in the country after testing 5,873 samples in the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of infections in the country to 102,613 people.

Senior Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr. Mercy Mwangangi said that of the new cases, 220 patients were Kenyans while 40 were foreign nationals.

He said 83 more patients had recovered and brought the total number of survivors to the country to 84, 873.

Nairobi County continued to lead in cases of corona virus infection.
