Local boxers will benefit from a boxing academy and a gymnasium to be built at Kasarani Stadium by the world boxing federation AIBA.

Speaking in Nairobi after leading an online session with African boxing federal officials, AIBA President Umar Kremlev said the academy and state-of-the-art gymnasium would be built at AIBA’s expense with the event expected to be completed before the end of this year.

“Our contribution will ensure that the gym, academia are open, we will build together and open with our own money and if possible before the end of this year, we ask the contractors who will be given the job not to attack us,” he said.

Kremlev from Russia, added that the construction of the academy and gymnasium will be the first in Africa before implementing similar projects in other African countries including Morocco and Uganda.

The President of the African Boxing Federation, Dr Mohammed Moustashane, praised President Umar’s visit to Africa and expressed hope that the continent would win at least three medals at this year’s Olympic Games between July and August in Tokyo, Japan.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank President Umar for visiting Africa for the first time since his election and the development plans he has for the continent. many of them have had since the qualifying tournament early last year ”said Dr. Moustashane

Kenya boxing federation chief Athony Ombok Jamal congratulated the AIBA leader in the country and said he would meet with officials from the sports ministry later this week to finalize strategies for building an academy and gymnasium at Kasarani Stadium.

“I am very pleased with the visit of the President who has brought us good and being the first African nation to visit, this has not happened yet. I will meet with officials from the sports ministry earlier this week to ensure all construction and operations are carried out,” said Jamal.

During his two-day visit to Nairobi, Umar chaired a meeting with all the leaders of the African boxing federations.
