Kamworor and Chelang’at will win the Police Crossroads race

Geofrey Kipsang Kamworor has won the 8th national championship cross-country race earlier on Friday at Ngong Race Course.

Kamworor, a three-time world marathon champion, showed great resilience and emerged the winner of the 10-kilometer race, when he raced for 29 minutes 22 seconds 3 points, followed by Josephat Kipkoech for 29 minutes 52 seconds 52 points 6, and Casius Masinde held third place for 30 minutes 13 seconds with Joseph Kiptum and Kipsang Temoi leading in 4th and 5th positions respectively.

Kamworor has said he is aiming for the Olympics as he withdraws from next month’s national cross-country race at the Ngong Race Course.

“At the moment I am more determined to participate in the Olympics and I have no intention of participating in the national cross country race on the 13th of next month,” said Kamworor.

Sheila Chelangat won the women’s 10km race with a time of 33 minutes 34 seconds 6, followed by former world champion in the 3000 meters steeplechase and water pool Hyivin Kiyeng who spent 33 minutes 39 seconds 8 points to complete with Edith Chelimo emerges third with world silver medalist in the 5000 meters Margaret Chelimo coming in 4th place followed by Faith Kimutai.

Police used the competition to select a team that will take part in the national tournament to select the Kenyan team for the African Wildcats Race between March 6 and 7 this year in Lome Togo.
