Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has apologized to the community of people living with disabilities following remarks that appeared to have offended Special Senator Issac Mwaura.

On her Twitter account, Junet, however, clarified that her remarks were not aimed at humiliating people living with the disability but that she was determined to accuse Mwaura of using her situation for political gain.

The MP was quoted as saying that Senator Mwaura used the trick of changing his skin color to make him look disabled and appointed to parliament to represent the disabled.

The remarks angered people living with disabilities, who have convened a press conference and criticized the MP, saying the remarks were degrading and also provoked incitement against the disabled.

This comes as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) aims to take action against Junet for her remarks against Senator Mwaura.

The commission said it was investigating the matter with a view to taking appropriate action.

Junet’s remarks have also been condemned by Kenyans on social media who say she was wrong to use Mwaura’s skin color for her political gain.
