JSC begins interviews to find a Supreme Court Judge – KBC

The Judicial Service Commission on Monday will begin interviews in search of a High Court Judge after Jacktone Boma Ojwang retired from the post.

Nine candidates had been shortlisted for the exercise but only seven will be interviewed after Judge Martha Koome was elected as the Chief Justice’s nominee while Judge Kathurima M’inoti removed his candidate.

Candidates include; Honorable Judge Chitembwe Said Juma, Honorable Judge Marete Njagi, Honorable Judge Nduma Mathews Nderi, Dr Nyaberi Justry Patrick Lumumba, Honorable Judge Ouko William Okello, Honorable Judge Sergon Joseph Kiplagat and Ms Yano Alice Jepkoech.

Judge Chitembwe Said Juma will once again be the first to face a single panel of Chief Justice last month.

Chitembwe was hired in Court on the 2ndnd of April 2009 after serving in the national social security fund from 2003 to 2009.

During his service in the Court, Chitembwe has served as a Judge of the High Court in Kakamega, Malindi, Migori and Marsabit.

Chitembwe, 54, is currently serving in the civilian division of the high court in Milimani law courts.

On the same Monday, 61-year-old Judge Marete Njagi of the Employment and Labor Relations Court would have legalized some of the employment disputes she was dealing with while seeking the post of High Court Judge.

A native of Tharaka Nithi County, Marete holds a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s Diploma in Law from a Kenyan law school.

Marete previously served as a state attorney in the Attorney General’s office for 15 years before rising to the position of Attorney General.
