The Kenya Muslim National Consultative Council (KEMNAC) has warned Imams leading various mosques in Mombasa to adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines set by the Ministry of Health or risking the closure of their mosques.

The Muslim leadership gave the Imams enough to ensure adherence to guidelines on the spread of viral failures that the government could order the closure of all places of worship as cases continue to escalate in Mombasa.

Addressing reporters in Mombasa, KEMNAC National Chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao warned the community not to use the opportunity of this holy month of Ramadan to break the protocol saying violations would attract more drastic action from the government.

According to data released by the Mombasa County Covid-19 response committee, so far the county has registered 762 people this month alone.

Last year, Muslims across the country had to observe the month of Ramadan under strict rules following national government orders to close all places of worship.
