Opposition parties in the Ethiopian province of Tigray have warned of a possible humanitarian catastrophe if aid is not sent to the area immediately.

The parties have said residents of the province are already dying of starvation and called on the international community to intervene.

The Ethiopian government has said that food aid is already being sent to the area and that approximately 1.5 million people have been reached.
