The Grammy awards have been postponed due to COVID-19.

The 63rd Grammy awards ceremony was due to take place on January 31st but the date has been pushed forward due to the ongoing Coronavirus concerns. The event has now been pushed till March 14th due to rising infection numbers in Los Angeles and the state of California, which is where the award ceremony traditionally takes place.

The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments led us to the postponement of the show. “After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd #GRAMMYs to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021.” Said the recording academy/Grammys team.

Just one day ago, the union that represents actors and media professionals, SAG-AFTRA, called for a production hold in COVID-plagued Southern California. This too cast big pressure on the academy. “Southern California hospitals are facing a crisis the likes of which we have never seen before. Patients are dying in ambulances waiting for treatment because hospital emergency rooms are overwhelmed. This is not a safe environment for in-person production right now,” SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris said in a statement on Monday.
