President Uhuru Kenyatta has lifted a moratorium on the movement to and from the five counties previously declared as infected areas due to the decline in Covid-19 infections in those areas.

The President also issued an order to adjust the curfew starting at 10:00 pm and ending at 4.00 am in Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nakuru Counties starting at 6pm.

Uhuru issued a directive during a Labor Day celebration held at the Nairobi White House saying the decision to reduce some of these measures was a result of a reduction in Covid-19 infections in the designated area.

“After one month of closure, Covid payments within the designated area have decreased by 72%. In other parts of the Republic, Covid payments have dropped by 89% in Mombasa and 90% in Busia between March and April,” he said. .

In addition the President allowed private and church worship to resume nationwide and only one-third of the capacity of places of worship is allowed in each worship session.

“Personal and congregational worship will resume in strict accordance with the guidelines issued by the Interfaith Council between the Ministry and Health. However, the congregation attends one-third of the capacity of the place of worship,” he ordered.

Restaurants and bars are also allowed to operate up to 7Pm in strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols.

Uhuru also ordered all hospitals to reduce the number of visitors of patients admitted to one guest per patient per day.

The ban on political rallies will remain in place until further notice.

The president further urged Kenyans to take personal responsibility in the fight against Covid-19 which has led to the collapse of world-renowned health systems.
