Naivasha Sub-County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu said illegal fishermen had been involved in the activity since last year, but the government was committed to saving the fishing industry.

For his part, management officer in Naivasha Sub-County Samwel Wamae said the government provided more than 100,000 vessels to the lake to strengthen the sector which provides employment for more than 60,000 people.

The two made the remarks after leading a new special task force to protect the lake from the burning of illegal fishing trophies worth more than one million shillings seized from Kihoto Street.
