Esther Nzakwa Kitivo died on August 31, 2004 at the age of 93 and her funeral was canceled due to a land dispute.

Nzakwa’s body, which has been in Machakos mortuary, has been buried at his son’s home pending the outcome of an ongoing trial.

His funeral ceremony which lasted for more than an hour was organized under heavy police protection.

Her son Michael Musau Faculty referred to her as a responsible mother who made sure her children received formal education.

He said his funeral was a great relief to their family who have mourned for him for nearly two decades.

Her children have decided to bury her as the mortuary bill increases to more than three million shillings and they have been calling on donors to help them.

Nzakwa was the first wife of Gideon Kitivo Ndambuki, who died in 2000.

Nzakwa’s stepdaughter had received a permanent order from a Machakos judge barring her from being buried near her husband’s grave.
