Police in South Africa have arrested 15 people on corruption charges in connection with the 2013 funeral of former president Nelson Mandela.

Those arrested include Eastern Cape health minister Sindiswa Gomba, several businessmen and other lawmakers from the ruling African National Congress.

Among them are regional chairman Pumlani Mkolo, former Buffalo mayor Zukiswa Ncitha and Luleka city council speaker Simon-Ndzele.

The 15 people, who have been released on bail until next month, have been charged with corruption and embezzlement amounting to $ 700,000.

Prosecutors say they made fraudulent claims of traffickers and places used in East London for a memorial service for South Africa’s first African President.
