The move will facilitate the implementation of the project whose implementation plans have been underway for the past three years.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Industry David Osiany said the process of transferring land ownership has been strengthened.

“We have taken action on this issue and are now awaiting approval by the cabinet,” Osiany said.

The area was originally planned to be developed in the Ombeyi area of Muhoroni sub-county but the plan was opposed by the local community who said they wanted the land redistribution.

Osiany said the new area is ideal considering it is close to the Miwani sugar factory and there is a good infrastructure in the area.

He said a unique special public area in the western part of the country has the potential to revive the disintegrated industries and create employment opportunities for residents.
