The chairman of the treasury board, Lewis Nguyai, said the inclusion of Covid 19 treatment in the insurance was part of the implementation of the universal health care plan.

Medical care for all, is one of the four pillars of the government’s development agenda.

He revealed that the ongoing discussions on the treasury board, are intended to ensure that Kenyans are financially supported as well as to ensure the fund is sustainable.

A panel of experts has been implementing the reform in an effort to strengthen the services provided by the fund in the country.

Last week, the NHIF fund launched an electronic management system in the western region that will be launched in other parts of the country.

Nguyai, who was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as chairman of the fund in February 2021, officially took office on Thursday after replacing Hannah Muriithi.
