Chebukati: We did not distribute separate copies of the constitutional amendment bill


The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed allegations that the commission distributed various copies of the BBI’s constitutional amendment bill to county parliaments.

Through a press release on Thursday evening, the commission said of IEBC, insisted that it distribute copies of the constitutional amendment bill which it received from the committee that led the BBI process under co-chairs Junet Mohamed and Dennis Weru.

According to the chairman of the Electoral Commission in Wafula Chebukati, the IEBC called for more copies from the BBI’s steering committee to send to the county legislatures after receiving six copies during the signing process.

The BBI Committee submitted 57 copies of the bill to the IEBC commission where the commission distributed 47 copies to the county legislatures, ‚ÄĚChebukati said in a statement.

Chebukati’s statement comes after rumors surfaced that the BBI process may have hit rock bottom after allegations that it was only 13 parliaments of the county received the correct copy anda constitutional amendment.

This has been cited as one of the factors that have contributed to the delay in debating the report in the national assembly.
