Defending Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia will descend on Kasarani Stadium on Sunday February 7 for a major league match known as the Mashemeji Derby while for the first time the tyrannical and humorous match was played without fans on the field from Covid 19.

Both teams had asked the health ministry to allow at least 5,000 fans a request rejected and forced fans to stay home during the tournament on Sunday.

Gor Mahia general secretary Sam Ochola said they were well prepared as they aimed to score all three points to approach the Leopards on the table.

“Our squad is fine and we are looking for all three points to get closer to the Leopards,” said Ochola

For his part, Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda is confident of registering the best results in the tournament while complaining about the ban on fans.

“We hoped that by the time we play this match the government will allow the fans but for now we will only play without the fans but we aim to get good results” said Shikanda

The Leopards are 4th in the league with 18 points while Gor Mahia holds 6th place with 15 points.
