A 32-year-old doctor is being held at Homa-Bay Police Station on charges of raping a 33-year-old woman who went to seek treatment Monday night at St Paul Mission Hospital in Homa-Bay Town.

A doctor identified as Laban Otieno Obor, a hospital doctor, was arrested by police on Wednesday after the woman, whose name has been withheld, reported the incident to the Homa-Bay Police Station.

Obor reportedly stabbed the woman twice with an undisclosed drug that made her unconscious before dragging her to an isolation room inside the health facility at 1am on the night of April 27 where she continued to rape.

According to a police report, he collapsed in hospital a few minutes after the injection but was unconscious during the entire operation by a doctor although he could not do anything because he was too weak to fight.

The victim, who is a mother of four when she regained consciousness in the morning, went to report the incident to the authorities.

Speaking to KNA, Homa Bay County Commander Esther Seroney confirmed that the suspect was arrested at his work station while performing his duties at a trust health center.

Seroney said, “After investigating the allegations made against the doctor, we held him in our custody for further investigation.”

The police boss said the hospital’s medical report confirmed that the patient had been raped and added that they would take the suspect to court as soon as the investigation was completed.
